TERMS AND CONDITIONS
‘Gower Shutterbugs Competition’ is an annual photographic competition open to everyone, excepting anyone connected with this competition, their families and relatives. The owner of the competition is Peninsular Business Services Limited, Gower. Entrants must be living in the UK, Europe, USA or Canada only.
Entries must have been taken within five years immediately prior to the closing date 2nd October 2010. (Images that have won an award (including winner, runner-up, highly commended, commended) in a national or international competition or that have been entered in such a competition where the results are still pending, are not eligible for entry).
All entries must be submitted digitally and must have been taken with a camera of 4 megapixels or larger to allow the image to be reproduced at A4 size or above. Image files should be uploaded as jpgs (300ppi) with 4700 pixels along the longest length. You must make sure your camera is on the highest-quality setting, and the image is uploaded the right way round. Both colour and black/white images are accepted. Digital adjustments, including High Dynamic Range (HDR) imaging techniques and the joining together of multiple frames are allowed. However, the integrity of the subject matter must be maintained and the making of physical changes to the landscape is NOT permitted (removing trees, fences, stripping sky from another image etc). The organisers reserve the right to disqualify any image that they feel lacks authenticity due to over manipulation. ONLY ONE image may be uploaded per entry per person.
Please upload your digital files with your surname, initial & 3 digit image number e.g. bloggsj055.jpg. No capital letter, spaces or any other character in the file name. All images will be cross-referenced by the organisers, with a unique identifying number, so that the judging is completely anonymous and based on the image alone.
This is the task:
“To submit a photograph of the Worm’s Head, Rhossili, Gower, that captures its magical and mystical quality: admired and photographed by people from all over the globe, your task is to present it in a new light”.
Upload to a Photo-hosting site
Your entry must be uploaded to a website or a photo-hosting site such as Twitpic, Flickr, Photobucket, Yfrog etc NO entries will be accepted by mail. When you upload the URL to PBS you will be asked for caption information but it is not used for judging purposes. Judging will take place in three stages:
Entries submitted will be shortlisted to ten images by the judging panel.
Those ten images will go to a public poll which will take place on the internet, publicity on more than 6 websites will drive the public to visit the poll and make their selection of the top five.
The five images selected from the public poll will go back to the judging panel to select the winning image.
There is one category for adults and one category for 16 or under on 2nd October 2010.
OPENING DATE AND CLOSING DATE
The competition opens on Monday 2nd August 2010 and closes on Saturday 2nd October 2010 at midnight BST between 2nd and 3rd.
The winning image will be that selected by the judging panel – NO appeals will be accepted.
The entry awarded the title Gower Shutterbug of the Year 2010 will be afforded that honour by the Rt. Hon. Lord Mayor of Swansea Cllr. Richard Lewis, at the Bay Bistro, Rhossili on Friday 29th October, Half Term week. The winning entry will be displayed along with 4 smaller photographs featuring Gower. (The size of the 4 smaller photos shall be 30x20cm 3500x2300px).
The entry awarded the title Youth Shutterbug of the Year 2010 will win a coaching session with a prominent Gower photographer.
Prizes are not transferable
The Prize:
- Dinner for 2 at The Bay Bistro, Rhossili for the winning adult to be taken during the October Half Term Break. For the winning youth – A session of coaching with a prominent local photographer to be arranged at his convenience.
NB:(Youth category – up to 16 years old, an agreement must be sought by the youth from his/her parent/guardian before entering, and also it must be confirmed in writing to PBS by email that his/her parent/guardian will accompany the youth at the coaching session. The cost of travel to and from the coaching session is not part of this prize).
- Showcase of the winning adult’s photograph plus 4 other photographs of Gower taken him/her, at the Bay Bistro, Rhossili during October Half Term
- Display of the winning shot by the youth photographer, at the Bay Bistro Rhossili during October Half Term

Showcase of winner’s work: Half Term week beginning 25th October at the Bay Bistro, Rhossili and a summary of the event to be covered by the ‘This is South Wales Evening Post’, and other online news resources. Award of the title Winner of the 2010 Gower Shutterbugs Competition will take place during the same week, and the winners will be handed their title by His Lordship the Rt. Hon. Lord Mayor of Swansea, Cllr Richard Lewis. (There will be accompanying publicity).
Copyright and permissions:
By submitting images to The Gower Shutterbugs Competition, each entrant confirms and warrants that:
They are the sole author of each entry and that it is their original work;
They own the copyright and any other intellectual property rights of the image;
They have permission of those pictured in the image (or, where persons of under 18 appear in the photograph, the consent of their parent/guardian) for the usage rights required and will indemnify PBS Ltd against any claims made by any third parties in respect of such infringement;
They have not licensed or disposed of any rights in the image that would conflict with uses to be made by PBS Ltd; and
They have received any necessary permission from the owner(s) of buildings included in the submitted images for the usage rights required by PBS Ltd and will indemnify PBS Ltd against any claims made by any third parties in respect of such infringement.
By entering the competition you grant PBS Ltd and its sponsors and supporters a non-exclusive, irrevocable licence to reproduce, enlarge, publish or exhibit, on any media the images, for any purpose connected with the competition. This may include but is not limited to:
Inclusion in brochures; display at exhibitions; on a secure website for judging; on any of the listed websites who have agreed to publicise the competition; for use in press releases to be distributed to national, regional and specialist press giving information about or promoting the competition.
COPYRIGHT OF EACH IMAGE IS RETAINED BY ITS RESPECTIVE PHOTOGRAPHER.
Finalists agree to take part in post-competition publicity.
PBS Ltd reserves the right to remove any entries from the competition that it feels may breach or contravene laws of public decency or may bring the photographer, the competition, PBS Ltd or any of its sponsors into disrepute. Such entries will be deemed as void, and passed on to the South Wales Police e-Crime Wales Team for investigation.
The decision of the judges is final and no correspondence will be entered into. Should the entries in either category fall below the standard required by the competition organiser and the judges, then the organiser reserves the right NOT to award prizes.

By accepting the terms and conditions of the competition and subsequently submitting your image, you have entered into an agreement with PBS Ltd. Once entered, images cannot be withdrawn, unless the orgniser is notified of a permission problem, in which case the image will be withdrawn.
The information given in these Terms and Conditions is correct, but PBS Ltd reserves the right to change any of the above without prior notice. By entering the competition, entrants will be deemed to have ageed to be bound by these Terms and Conditions. Any breach of these Terms by an entrant will void their entry. If a breach has occurred, but is discovered after the award of a prize, then the organisers may request the return of that prize.
