GOWER SHUTTERBUGS COMPETITION 2010

This photography competition is being powered by The Semantic Web.  What is The Semantic Web you might be asking?  It's everything there is in the way of communicating via social media on the internet.

TARGET AUDIENCE

Anyone may enter this competition and there are NO restrictions on where you live.  Students of the Swansea School of Photography are also invited to join in as are our ex-pat friends resident in USA, Canada, Europe and the rest of the world.  The audience for this competition might also like to know that Americymru, our American Cousin, is also organising a Left Coast Eisteddfod Visual Image Competition . So you get the chance to enter two photographic competitions this summer.  PBS and Americymru are linking via social media to promote these competitions. On visiting the Americymru website, you will be asked to join before you can enter the LC Eisteddfod Competition, the closing date is 15th September, 2010:

Notification of winner:   By email, on 15th October.

Showcase of winner's work: Half Term week beginning 25th October at the Bay Bistro, Rhossili and a summary of the event to be covered by ‘This is South Wales Evening Post’, and other online news resources. Award of the title Winner of the 2010 Gower Shutterbugs Competition will take place during the same week, and the winners will be handed their title by His Worshipful the Rt. Hon. Lord Mayor of Swansea, Cllr Richard Lewis.

Towards the end of the short 1:28 min video you will see the famous Worm's Head, and Rhossili beach, recently awarded UK's Best Beach by Daily Mail readers, reported 8th June 2010.  (There will be accompanying publicity on the day of the award presentation).

REMIT OF THE PHOTOGRAPHER

“To submit a photograph of the Worm's Head that captures its magical and mystical quality: admired and photographed by people from all over the globe, your task is to present it in a new light”.

THE PRIZE

  • Dinner for 2 at The Bay Bistro, Rhossili for the winning adult to be taken during the October Half Term Break.   For the winning youth – A session of coaching with a prominent local photographer to be arranged at his convenience.

(Youth category – up to 16 years old, an agreement must be sought by the youth from his/her parent/guardian before entering, and also it must be confirmed in writing to PBS by email that his/her parent/guardian will accompany the youth at the coaching session).

  • Showcase of the winning adult’s photograph plus 4 other photographs of Gower taken him/her, at the Bay Bistro, Rhossili during October Half Term
  • Display of the winning shot by the youth photographer, at the Bay Bistro Rhossili during October Half Term
